If Memory had a voice,
It would call from distant, shaded valleys
In my mind,
A friendly echo
Underneath the tickling twitter
Of orioles and chickadees,
Accelerating now, louder and sweeter,
A train whistle—
Best heard
Through window screens,
A living wonder,
Exhaling,
“Where has it been?”
Inhaling,
“Where is it going?”

I would love to read more from Julie Sumner. Her poetry creates a beautiful picture in my mind.
